Apple may open up the App Store to agentic AI
Artificial intelligence has posed a multi-layered problem for Apple in recent years. We're expecting to hear some big news at WWDC this year about how AI will be integrated into the company's gadgets, but there are still other wrinkles still to be ironed out in its broader approach to the use of this influential technology. According to, one of those challenges is the recent interest and development of agentic AI. To date, Apple has not permitted vibe coding tools on the App Store because they would violate its policies. They could also potentially be used to create original apps for people who would have otherwise gotten software from the App Store, which could pose a threat to Apple's revenue as well as creating a loophole for spreading malware or taking other malicious actions. But applying that same block more broadly to any agentic AI services, which can take active control over a device and its programs, could keep Apple out of the loop as those tools are generating a lot of interest among both developers and casual users.

OpenAI endorses the Kids Online Safety Act
OpenAI, which is currently facing a raft of lawsuits over alleged safety lapses in ChatGPT, has endorsed the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA). The company said that its endorsement was part of a broader commitment to create AI-specific rules for kids safety. OpenAI's endorsement comes as KOSA, which passed the Senate in 2024, appears to be gaining some momentum . KOSA, which was first introduced in 2022, is one of several online safety bills that would require social media companies and other online platforms to implement stronger protections for children. The bill has been revised a number of times, but the current version includes a requirement for social media apps to allow minors to opt out of addictive features and algorithmic recommendations.

WhatsApp users can soon have private conversations with Meta AI
Meta is introducing an option for WhatsApp users to have private chats with its AI assistant that not even the company can read. It's pitching Incognito Chat with Meta AI as a way to have clandestine conversations with the chatbot under the protection of end-to-end encryption, which WhatsApp has long offered for chats between humans. Meta revealed it was working on such a feature at its LlamaCon generative AI conference in April 2025. The company built Incognito Chat with Meta AI using its Private Processing tech . It said that messages exchanged with the chatbot in this mode are handled in a secure environment that no one else has access to. The messages are not saved and they disappear by default.

Family sues OpenAI, alleging ChatGPT advice led to accidental overdose
OpenAI is facing another wrongful death lawsuit . Leila Turner-Scott and Angus Scott filed a lawsuit against the company, alleging that it designed and distributed a defective product that led to the death of their son Sam Nelson from an accidental overdose. Specifically, they're alleging that Sam died following the exact medical advice GPT-4o had provided and approved. In the lawsuit, the plaintiffs described how Sam, a 19-year-old junior at the University of California, Merced, started using ChatGPT in 2023 when he was in high school to help with homework and to troubleshoot computer problems. Sam then started asking the chatbot about safe drug use, but ChatGPT initially refused to answer his question, telling him that it couldn't assist him and warning him that taking drugs can have serious consequences for his health and well-being.

Apple reportedly has a lot of changes planned for the Camera app
The new camera options will join the other features Apple will reportedly highlight at WWDC 2026: performance improvements and AI . The biggest change Apple is making to the Camera app is to make it more customizable. Rather than being stuck with the company's predetermined interface for shooting photos and capturing videos, you'll reportedly be able to tweak it to your liking. The app will reportedly also include more advanced options like controls for depth-of-field, exposure and the company's photo styles feature. Apple offers a theoretically easy way to tweak these settings on the iPhone by using the Camera Control button, but changing things from the touchscreen should be even easier.

Threads users are pissed they can't block Meta's new AI chatbot
Earlier today, Meta announced that it was testing a new Meta AI chatbot for Threads that would function a lot like Grok on X. Even though the early beta isn't available to most people on the platform yet, a number of Threads users have discovered its not possible to opt out of the feature or block chatbot's the account. While most people aren't able to interact with bot yet -- the initial testing is limited to Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Argentina and Singapore -- the public-facing @ meta.ai account is viewable to everyone on the platform. The account's initial post has been met with a flood of angry replies from users demanding to know why, unlike any other Threads account, there's no option to block it entirely. Some users have even said that they have reported the account for spam, which typically ends with the option to block, only to find out that the block didn't actually go into effect.
